This project involved the gut renovation of a 2700 SF penthouse apartment with sweeping vistas of Central Park. The owners requested a contemporary look with an overall Japanese flavor. We inherited a condition of multiple floor heights that we reconfigured into a series of gently terraced platforms that create a continuous progression from the main entrance in the center of the unit south toward a glass curtain wall with the spectacular view at the front of the building. Sliding translucent panels reminiscent of shoji screens define some areas in lieu of conventional partitions. The bathroom and dressing area for the master bedroom feature a translucent skylit ceiling. We worked closely with a master cabinetmaker on extensive custom millwork throughout the apartment. The kitchen features a stone floor and bronze cabinetry.
